What is THCA?

THCA, or Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in raw and live cannabis plants. As the precursor to THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), THCA is converted into THC through decarboxylation, a process that involves applying heat, which occurs when cannabis is smoked, vaporized, or cooked. Unlike THC, THCA does not produce psychoactive effects, meaning it won’t get you “high” in its raw form.

THCA has garnered interest for its potential therapeutic benefits. Preliminary research and anecdotal evidence suggest that it may have anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, anti-nausea, and anti-proliferative properties. This has led to its use in various forms by people seeking the potential medical benefits of cannabis without the psychoactive effects associated with THC.

Because THCA is found in raw cannabis, it can be consumed by juicing raw cannabis leaves and buds, eating raw cannabis, or using tinctures and other products formulated with raw cannabis extracts. However, the scientific research on THCA’s health benefits is still in the early stages, and more studies are needed to fully understand its effects and therapeutic potential.

What is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of the many compounds found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is the compound responsible for the psychoactive effects associated with marijuana, CBD is non-psychoactive. This means it doesn’t cause the “high” associated with THC.

CBD has gained popularity in recent years for its potential therapeutic benefits. Some research and anecdotal evidence suggest that it can help with various conditions, including anxiety, pain, inflammation, and some seizure disorders. It’s available in several forms, such as oils, capsules, edibles, topicals, and more.

It’s important for consumers to research the laws in their area and consult with healthcare providers before using CBD, especially if they are taking other medications, due to potential interactions.
